About the Open Dinghy Club

The club was founded back in 1972 after participants at a sailing course begged to be able to sail some more.

The ODC is a sailing club for those who enjoy sailing their small boats from the shore. We pride ourselves on a relaxed, friendly family atmosphere and although we organise a busy racing schedule and an annual regatta weekend, the most important thing for all of us is to have fun sailing our boats. They range from Mirror dinghies and Toppers to 18 foot performance catamarans.

We are located in West Sussex, on the coast below East Preston, about half way between Worthing and Littlehampton (where?) and our boat compound opens onto the beach. From the top of the boat house the view stretches from the Seven Sisters to the Isle of Wight, on a clear day.

Our facilities are basic. They include a clubhouse for changing (and that essential post-sail brew-up), an electric winch to recover your craft, sail lockers, a hose and cold water shower and even toilets...

There is a kiosk on the beach next to the club. It is open at weekends (weekdays as well in the summer holidays) providing drinks, snacks and ices for any hungry souls basking in the sun. If you like a pint, the Seaview Hotel is close by.
